Rooftop Bar Hopping in Charleston, well kinda

A city like Charleston is a foodie’s utopia, a brides-to-be haven, and a history buff’s dream. A city has a lot to offer a weekend visitor and much more to offer a local.

One such element of the city center bar scene is the non-ubiquitous rooftop bar. At first thought Charleston has all the ingredients of a rooftop mecca: ocean vistas, gentle breezes, and droves of paying customers.

I was saddened to hear over and over that Charleston has only 2 such establishments: Pavilion Bar (on top of Market Pavilion Hotel), and the Roof Top Bar (on top of the Vendue Hotel).

The Pavilion caters to several hundred thirsty souls and draws a more mature crowd, which can only be described as cougar-rific, croakie rich, and the less than 30 need not arrive unless accompanied by an adult. With the sweeping views, delish drinks and rooftop pool, this place is well worth a libation as you ponder life’s many questions.

The Pavilion’s fraternal twin, The Roof Top Bar is where you 20-sometimes will find your inner-calm and lots of beer bonging. A nice happening joint a block or so from the Pavilion with plenty of action to keep you occupied until its abrupt close at midnight. After that, you are fresh out of rooftops and might have succumb to street level ambling.
