Boston Common, Not So Common

The oldest park in America, the Boston Common dates back to around 1634. Common in those days, not ours, the common was used for cattle grazing and housing American revolutionary solders. The BC is found right in the heart of this already historic town, rubbing elbows with the upper crusters of Beacon Hill and friendly neighbor to the simply named Public Garden.

The BC today is a green oasis which serves are heart of the system of greenways that string through the downtown. On a classic warm New England Saturday, it seems that half of Boston takes to the Common to play frisbee, eat ice cream, chit chat on the green lawns, and attend any of the arts and crafts booths set up through out the summer months.
