Up, up, and away to one of Quito’s best attractions, the Teleferiqo, or cable car. This ride is the best way to see the expansive beauty of this mountain city. Pay $8 and ride a car up to the top of one of the many mountain peaks surrounding this beautiful city. As you slowly ascend, take in the sweeping 400 year old colonial town. The top offers you many opportunities to explore and snap mementos of this spectacular view.

After you have explored the peak, drank a cappuccino, and bought a super imposed picture of yourself hanging from a cable car, you will be ready to return to base camp. Once you descend, you might hear a giant sucking sound. Don’t be alarmed but proceed with caution as there is a small childrens theme park below cleverly designed to take every last dollar you have. If you have the fortitude or are traveling sans ninos (children), you should be able to escape unscathed with your hard earned dollars intact.

CLOTHING TIP: While the vistas of Quito will warm the heart, the brisk breeze at the top will freeze everything else, bring a sweater, light jacket and/or scarf to ward off any excess chill.
