‘Peaking It’ (Hong Kong Travel)

Hong Kong is a dichotomy of yesterday’s culture and customs being slowly crushed by the gleaming glass buildings of the new economy. Old ways are dying with it residents as a new shopping centers spring up like the weeds in my garden.

No trip to HK would be complete w/o a 70 cent ride on the world famous Star ferry. You can catch one every 15 minutes on Kowloon to HK Island, just a short 7 minutes right across the bay. This is where about 4k of HK’s over 7k skyscrapers call their home. Once on the island, there is a spider web of above ground walkways. This ensures that a local’s skin never has to come in contact with the oppressive sun. These weave in and out of any and all bldgs in the financial district.
After losing myself in this concrete maze (literally), I made for the Peak. This is at the tiptop of HK Island and provides the best view of the steel, glass jungle below. At the top of the Peak, the HK Tourist board decided to build a mini-Disney World structure the shape of a martini glass. This bldg houses everything from 4 star restaurants to a level for video gamers and is completely encased in glass so every vantage point has a spectacular million dollar view. And, there is even a Starbucks!
