Little know fact that over 250k Filipina maids work in HK. They work such grueling hours that their only reprieve from the 14-hour shifts 6 days of week is SUNDAY. This is a day that can easily freak out the most seasoned traveler if they are not expecting it.
In keeping with the Sunday tradition all these women descend on the Central area of HK, basically, right smack in the middle of town. Imagine a bee hive swarming with thousands of worker bees, now imagine the same beehive throwing down blankets on sidewalks, stairs, parks, walkways, and roads and hanging out for the day. They sing, play cards, domino’s, worship, and gossip from sun-up until sundown. It is quite a site to see, as maneuvering through these ladies of leisure is no easy feat.
