Around the World Travel. Part 12 (Backpacker to Flashpacker)

Posted on 21 December 2009 by megancriley

In my series of planning RTW travel, I myself, like many of you out there, have had to postpone it due to economic factors out of my hands (ie. my house would not sell), So how do you keep the momentum going when your mind is out of the country?

RTW Travel You Say. Part 11 (Selling Off Your Life) was my last entry and indeed, I did have my yard sale and sold a bunch of crap and a bunch of things not so crappy. In my haste to shed it all, I probably let a couple needed items make their way into the homes of strangers. But, what’s done is done and I did make $120.

All is not lost, while the thought of me living out of a backpack for 12 + months is postponed, the ability to take mini 3-4 week vacations still exist (thank you quasi flexible job). I can live vicariously through those already backpacking without the budget constraints they and I would normally face on a trip of that magnitude. So, after I hear about the next ‘IT’ country or city from my fellow backpackers, I can retire back to my luxurious suite on my expensive silky sheets and drink my champagne while getting a private massage. Flashpacking is what they call that, but I call it a pure 1000 thread-count heaven.

Today in December 2009, as I change from potential backpacker to future flashpacker, I will begin to discuss that little conversed side of the RTW experience. Flashpacking is a new type of experience and takes a planner, a saver, a dreamer to make your RTW travel happen in 3 weeks or less.

My flashbacker trips have taken me to Paris,Belgium, and Las Vegas over the past few months and when all the stars align, I will go on my RTW trip, hopefully sooner rather than later.

adios, ciao, a plus, my fellow travelers and we’ll see you on the road.
